Louisiana Revised Statutes
require all political subdivisions and local government agencies to have their financial
statements examined by either the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office or by a
local independent Certified Public Accounting firm.
Depending on the size of the local government agency, the examination may
include a “compilation”, a “review”, or an “audit” of the financial statements.
In addition, depending on how much federal
grants are received, a local agency may be required to have a federal “single audit”
that covers compliance with grant conditions and requirements.
Because of its size and
because of the amount of federal grant money received, the JPSO is required to have
an “audit” performed each year on its financial statements, which includes a “single
audit” of its various federal grants.
The audited financial statements and the single audit reports are published in a
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
