Traffic Light Photo Enforcement Program

What is the "Traffic Light Photo Enforcement Program"?

The Jefferson Parish Government is responsible for the implementation of the "Traffic Light Photo Enforcement Program". Under this program, traffic cameras were installed at several major intersections where "running the red signal light" was getting out of hand.  The primary impetus behind these cameras is the safety of our citizens.  The use of these cameras is meant to be a deterrent to citizens who disregard traffic signals.  It is also meant to free up traffic officers so that their services can be put to use elsewhere in the burgeoning parish.

The intersections are posted with a sign warning that the intersection is "photo enforced".  The program is sponsored by the Parish, however, the cameras are owned and operated by a private vendor (Redflex International).

Traffic Light Photo Enforcement
How Does It Work?

Whenever a violation occurs, a photo and a short video of the infraction are generated. The photo and the video are reviewed by the private vendor to determine if a violation was captured and whether the pictures are clear enough to identify the vehicle involved.

The photo and video are then sent electronically to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) Traffic Division for review and concurrence on the violation. Once the JPSO Traffic Division validates that there is a violation, the private vendor mails a notice of infraction to the registered owner of the vehicle.

How Much is the Fine and How to Pay It?

The infraction is treated as a "civil penalty" under the enabling parish ordinance. The fee totals $110.00, broken down as follows:

$75.00 Fine (76% to Parish, 12% to DA, and 12% to JPSO)
$30.00 Admin fee to vendor
$5.00 Court Computer fee

The notice of infraction includes payment instructions and instructions on how to contest the ticket.  The infraction may be paid by mail.  All payments (along with your Violation Notice) should be mailed to:
